Copy Editor and News and Feature Assistant
Interns will help edit and produce online news and feature articles exploring UI faculty’s use of educational technology. This internship is a good match for someone with experience copyediting, and/or producing a yearbook, newspaper, or newsletter. Interns with experience and/or interest in media and educational technology are encouraged to apply. Duties will depend upon the intern's skills and interests, but might include:
Applicants with strong writing samples will be preferred. Web authoring skills and/or familiarity with any of the following software is desirable but not required: Dreamweaver, Illinois Compass, Adobe PageMaker and Photoshop.

Center for Top Down Proteomics
Paid Intern in Technical Writing
The Center for Top Down Proteomics is a newly-formed unit
charged with developing software to supportshigh-performance protein identification
and characterization techniques for a global user community. We are seeking
an intern to write help files and supporting documentation for the ProSight
application suite. The successful intern should be able to work independently,
but in close collaboration with members of the software development group. The
intern should be able to translate verbal demonstrations into clear written
descriptions (basically, one or more programmers will show you how something
works, and you will write a description that clearly conveys the process to
users).
The successful intern will receive, in addition to a professional reference
and published material for his or her portfolio, an honorarium of $400 and serious
consideration for continued employment (at an hourly rate for the remainder
of their undergraduate education at UIUC).
It is expected that the intern will have completed a high-school level chemistry
and biology course. Additional coursework, work experience, or career interest
in either the sciences or software documentation is a strong plus but is not
required.

News and Feature Intern
The Communications Office produces the college magazine, the
alumni newsletter, a monthly electronic newsletter (enewsletter), as well as
a variety of print and web information.
Our News and Feature intern would work on some or all of the following projects:
Good writing skills and attention to detail are required. Ability to meet deadlines is necessary. Access to the Internet and electronic mail is necessary. No office space can be provided. Interns must represent the College professionally.

Community Inquiry Laboratories
Technical Writing Intern
This internship is a unique opportunity to join a diverse
and distinguished team of faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students working
to develop Inquiry Labs (iLabs) at the Graduate School of Library and Information
Science (GSLIS). An iLab is a virtual place where members of a community come
together to pool knowledge and work to solve shared problems. A community could
be a neighborhood, such as the Paseo Boricua community in Chicago, a college
or K-12 classroom, or a research project. iLabs are part of a newly launched
Community Informatics Initiative (http://ilabs.inquiry.uiuc.edu/ilabs/cii),
and are built using an Inquiry Lab Builder (http://ilabs.inquiry.uiuc.edu)--
an open-source, web-based tool for collaborative knowledge construction
iLabs are committed to “community," which emphasizes collaborative
activity and creating knowledge connected to people's values, history, and lived
experiences; “inquiry,” which emphasizes support for open-ended,
democratic, participatory engagement in the problem-solving process; and a “laboratory”
environment, which indicates a space and resources to bring theory and action
together in an experimental and critical manner

Innocent Words Magazine
Music Journalism and Press Relations Interns
Two internships are available with Innocent Words Magazine and Records:
Innocent Words Magazine is offering writing positions to student interns. We are a bi-monthly independent music and art magazine with a strong focus on local, regional, and national music. We offer readers in-depth music reviews, interviews, and assorted art-related features. Student interns will work closely with owner Troy Michael on strict deadlines in completing their writing tasks.
Innocent Words Records houses three bands –Lorenzo Goetz, Terminus Victor, and Triple Whip. We are offering internship positions to students interested in learning the inside workings of an independent record label. We will work closely with interns on press relations for magazines, tours, and promotional matters.
